When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the Spring of 2015, I had no idea what to expect. I had seen the pink merchandise everywhere and the exhortations to “save second base.” I knew that I was fortunate to receive an early diagnosis thanks to my mammogram. But what I didn’t know is that people like myself, whose cancer was detected early, have an almost 1 in 3 chance of developing Metatstatic (stage IV) Breast Cancer, which is incurable and has an average life expectancy of 36 months from the time of diagnosis. 36 months! “Awareness” is not enough. We need a cure. This is why I support METAvivor.org, where 100% of donations are used for Metastatic Breast Cancer research. A portion of the proceeds from every bag of coffee you buy from Sweatpants & Coffee will go to METAvivor.org. Your cup of coffee will help to save lives.
FACTS: Metastatic Breast Cancer takes the lives of 40,000 Americans each year | That equates to approximately 113 every day | That number hasn't changed significantly in over 30 years | Statistically we know that 30% of Early Stage Breast Cancer patients do go on to metastasize at some point in their life | We need to fund meaningful, translational research in order to develop better medications to extend the lives of those currently living with MBC | And hopefully, one day, a cure.
